Overview

Defended a steel fabricator in a personal injury action where the plaintiff fell from a steel beam at some height and was rendered quadriplegic. The plaintiff’s demand prior to trial was $59 million. After several days of trial, we advised our client to settle for a confidential amount. Following our settlement, an adverse verdict was rendered against the final named defendant in the amount of $64 million, one of the highest awards in the history of the state of Illinois at the time. The amount our client settled for was nominal in comparison.
