Greg SellGreg SellWith heavy hearts, we regretfully announce the unexpected passing of our colleague, partner and friend, Greg Sell, 73, on July 25, 2024.

A brilliant legal mind, Greg was someone who knew more about the Tax Code than any of us could fathom. He enjoyed navigating the most complex situations while developing innovative strategies for his clients.

Greg’s reputation in the office was as the “go to” person for a quick answer to any tax question.  His humble mentorship was relied on by countless attorneys both inside and outside the firm. On the personal level, he was a raconteur with whom every encounter ended with a smile if not all out fits of laughter.

Greg started his career as an attorney with a then Big Eight public accounting firm. He joined Davis & Kuelthau in 1993, and spent his remaining legal career with Davis & Kuelthau and (subsequently through firm combination) Amundsen Davis. Well known and respected throughout the community, Greg previously served as Chair of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

A consummate partner, Greg served in many behind the scenes law firm administrative roles, including as a board member and longtime Treasurer of Davis & Kuelthau. Most importantly, Greg was the epitome of a gentleman and a good friend to all. We will all miss him more than words can express.

Greg is survived by his wife, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz, and his two sons, Matt and Dan. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Our deepest condolences to all who had the opportunity to know and love Greg.
