The recent Winter 2023 issue of USLAW Magazine features Mike McGrory’s article, “Four Concerns for States Launching New Cannabis Programs.” The number of states that have legalized marijuana for recreational use has continued to grow, and this in addition to the states where medical cannabis is allowed. As the cannabis industry has witnessed and taken part in these rollouts, there are several takeaways to consider moving forward. Mike’s article details four of these points: 1) social equity concerns; 2) supply and demand dynamics; 3) tax policy; and 4) regulatory pervasiveness. These topics highlight some of the difficulties that have occurred, from with the rollout of cannabis programs to their regulation and taxation, and is will be helpful to anyone interested in joining the cannabis industry.
